Dengue and Malaria Surge in Delhi: September Update

New Delhi: Delhi has recorded its highest number of dengue and malaria cases this year in September.

According to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) weekly report till September 12, the city has reported 121 dengue cases so far in September alone. This is more than one-fourth of the total 432 cases reported this year. In the last week alone, 71 fresh cases were reported.

Area-wise, West Delhi reported the highest 57 cases this year, followed by Central zone with 54 and Shahdara North with 50.

Malaria cases are also on the rise. Delhi has recorded 183 malaria cases this year, including 64 in September so far – the highest this year. No death has been reported due to malaria.

The city has reported 24 chikungunya cases this year, compared to 46 during the same period in 2025. Only two cases have been reported in September so far.

For comparison, Delhi had reported 619 dengue cases till this time in 2025, 709 in 2024 and 2,097 in 2023.

MCD Steps Up Action

MCD officials said mosquito-control measures have been intensified. Over 2.79 crore houses were inspected for mosquito breeding this year.

Larvae were found in 1.47 lakh houses. The civic body has issued over 1.10 lakh legal notices, launched 11,943 prosecutions and collected Rs 15.59 lakh in fines. Anti-larval spray was done in over 13 lakh houses.
