Delhi Extends Free Bus Travel for Women Until 2026

New Delhi: Relief for women commuters! The Delhi government has extended free bus travel with paper-based pink tickets till August 31, 2026. But after that, it’s going digital.

An official order issued on Saturday, August 15 confirmed the second extension in recent weeks. The move aims to give women more time to switch to the new Pink Saheli Smart Card system for DTC and cluster buses.

What’s Changing From September 1
From September 1, the pink paper tickets will stop.

Women who do not have a Pink Saheli Smart Card will have to buy regular tickets to travel on DTC and cluster buses. Free travel will only continue for cardholders.

Why The Extension?

Authorities said the extra two weeks will be used to ramp up awareness campaigns across bus depots and stops. The goal is to help all eligible women get the smart card before the paper system ends.

What Should Women Do Now?

The government has urged all eligible women passengers to apply for the Pink Saheli Smart Card during this extended period. Once you have the card, free travel will continue without any interruption from September.

The smart card is part of the government’s push to make the free-travel scheme cashless and easier to track.
