The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) performed exceptionally well in an all-round fashion against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Wednesday, April 15, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in a match that ended in an overwhelming five-wicket win for the former team. In match number 23 of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Royal Challengers chose to field first, which proved to be a correct choice considering the performance put up by the RCB bowlers against the LSG batsmen. The visiting side failed miserably to play shots on a wicket that favored scoring high totals, getting bowled out for a low score of 146 in 20 overs.

The masterminds behind LSG’s demise were Rasikh Salam Dar and seasoned fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Rasikh was exceptional in his performance and ended up with his best stats of 4/24 as he cracked the backbone of the middle order batting line-up of the Super Giants. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was right behind him as he gave good backup numbers with his bowling statistics of 3/27, including wickets off consecutive balls to the last order batting line-up. On the batting side for the Super Giants, Mitchell Marsh was the sole player from their side who batted with spirit in his 40-ball innings of 40.

However, RCB were equally swift in their pursuit, posting the target of 147 runs in less than five overs to spare. The batting was spearheaded by Virat Kohli with an exemplary knock of 49 runs in 34 balls with an abundance of boundaries. Although Kohli could not complete his fifty, the platform was set. The captain Rajat Patidar (27) and Jitesh Sharma (23) were both aggressive batsmen who helped RCB finish their chase without any hiccups, with Jitesh playing some audacious shots that sealed the game. While Prince Yadav had an impressive bowling display for LSG taking three wickets for only 32 runs, the target was far too low.

Through this convincing victory, Bengaluru gains ground in the points table, displaying better bowling control in addition to their renowned batting prowess. On the other hand, for the Lucknow Super Giants, this defeat comes as their second successive defeat and is an indication of the issues associated with their batting prowess. Josh Hazlewood received the title of Man of the Match, given his economic performance of conceding only 1/20 runs in a very early spell of play.
