Rijuju writes to Kharge, says relay in women’s quota law will deny justice to many.

April 13,2026: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has written a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressing concern over the delay in implementing the women’s reservation law.

In his letter, Rijiju said that any postponement or “relay” in implementing the law could deny justice to many women who are waiting for political representation. He stressed that the women’s quota law is an important step toward gender equality and should be put into action without unnecessary delay.

The law, officially known as the Women’s Reservation Bill 2023, aims to reserve 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies for women.

Rijiju urged Kharge and his party to support early implementation of the law so that women can benefit from it as soon as possible. He also highlighted that delays may weaken the purpose of the legislation and slow down progress toward women’s empowerment.

The issue has sparked political debate, with different parties expressing varying views on when and how the reservation should be implemented.
