Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew, Chandra Bose, joined TMC

Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has officially joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Kolkata just ahead the April 23 West Bengal Assembly Elections

Days before the West Bengal assembly elections, Chandra Bose, the grandnephew of prominent BJP leader Subhas Chandra Bose, joined the Trinamool Congress on Sunday. In front of TMC MP Kirti Azad and state minister Bratya Basu, Bose joined the ruling party.

State Education Minister Mr. Bratya Basu said, “In the BJP’s language, this is ghar wapsi. A secular person has returned to a secular place.” 

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Mr. Chandra Bose ran from Rashbehari on a BJP ticket. He left the BJP in 2023 due to “ideological differences,” having joined in 2016. Since then, he has expressed his disapproval of the BJP’s ideas on several times.

Chandra Kumar Bose called on all communities to get together in order to overcome “divisive forces bent to destroy the country” in a post on March 27.

“Joining the BJP was a ‘historic mistake’–but I realised it was not too late, but rather sooner! If a party’s sole aim is to create division and facture among voters just to win elections, then I cannot accept that! You cannot fight communalism with communalism! Let us unite all communities to safeguard the structure of our nation.”

He stated, “The INDIA alliance, workers, and the people must absolutely come together to defeat the divisive forces bent on destroying the country.”

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal’s electoral registers has recently drawn harsh criticism from Chandra Kumar Bose, who has called for socialists and progressives to protect their right to vote.

The TMC has previously been represented in Parliament by the late Krishna Bose and her son, historian Sugata Bose. The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose family includes both.

The West Bengal Assembly elections are set to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 4.
