Blessing Muzarabani’s Skill Set Makes Him Ideal for KKR Ahead of IPL 2026

The rise of Blessing Muzarabani in international T20 cricket has caught the attention of many franchises, and the Zimbabwe pacer could prove to be a key asset for the KKR in the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

Muzarabani recently earned a spot in the ICC Men’s T20 Team of the Tournament alongside top bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Lungi Ngidi. His inclusion highlighted the growing reputation of the tall right-arm fast bowler on the global stage.

KKR turn to Muzarabani amid injury concerns

With uncertainty surrounding the availability of Indian pacers Harshit Rana and Matheesha Pathirana ahead of IPL 2026, KKR have placed their faith in the Zimbabwean speedster. The franchise believes his ability to bowl at consistent pace and deliver breakthroughs could strengthen their pace attack.

Standing at 6 feet 8 inches, Muzarabani’s height allows him to generate steep bounce — a factor that could prove extremely effective on the pitches at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Muzarabani, KKR: Proven performer in global T20 leagues

Muzarabani has been a regular feature in Zimbabwe’s bowling attack since 2017. In 89 T20 internationals, he has taken more than 100 wickets while maintaining an economy rate slightly above seven.

The fast bowler has also gained valuable franchise experience across tournaments such as the Caribbean Premier League, International League T20 and Pakistan Super League.

This will be his second stint in the IPL. He previously joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru as a temporary replacement during the closing stages of the 2025 season.

Standout performance against Australia

The Zimbabwe pacer impressed during the recent T20 World Cup, particularly with his match-winning spell against Australia national cricket team. His disciplined pace bowling helped restrict Australia to 146 runs in Colombo.

Muzarabani finished the tournament with 13 wickets, just one behind Indian stars Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy.

Strengthening KKR’s bowling attack

KKR believe Muzarabani’s skill set — including accurate yorkers and control during powerplay and death overs — makes him well suited for IPL conditions. His ability to extract bounce could complement spinners like Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy.

The Zimbabwean could also share the pace duties with bowlers such as Vaibhav Arora and Cameron Green, giving the defending champions more balance in their bowling lineup.

PSL withdrawal controversy

Muzarabani had earlier been picked by Islamabad United in the PSL as a replacement for Shamar Joseph. However, he withdrew from the tournament after signing with KKR for IPL 2026.

The decision has reportedly drawn criticism from the Pakistan Cricket Board, which is considering legal options regarding the contractual situation.

KKR, meanwhile, will hope that Muzarabani can replicate his recent international form and fill the potential gap left by injured pacers when IPL 2026 begins.
