Garment Workers Block Road in Dhaka Demanding Unpaid Wages

Workers from SM Fashion Factory in Pallabi, Mirpur, blockaded the main road at Mirpur-11 on Tuesday afternoon to protest the non-payment of their January wages and benefits, bringing traffic to a complete halt.

The protest began around 1:30 PM on the main road of Mirpur-11 and was still ongoing as of 3 PM. Due to the blockade, vehicular movement on the Mirpur-11 road has been severely disrupted.

The workers of SM Fashion Factory, located in the Alliance Building in Section 7 of Pallabi, allege that their January wages and benefits were due to be paid on Monday, February 23. Despite the deadline passing and repeated assurances from the owners, the payments were not made.

Frustrated by the delay, the workers took to the streets in protest. They stated that they have received several reassurances but no action has followed. The protesting workers warned that they will continue their movement until a clear announcement is made regarding the immediate payment of their dues.
