Three Injured in Crude Bomb Blast on voting day in Gopalganj, Bangladesh

On 12th February, during general elections day, three people were hurt when a locally made bomb exploded near a polling station in Gopalganj district, the hometown of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The blast occured at around 9:30 a.m, at the Reshma International School polling center in the Sadar area. The voter turnout had been a peaceful exercise until then when unidentified people threw some crude explosive device toward the polling station.

The explosion injured two Ansar personnel who were on duty identified as Sukanta Majumdar and Jamal Hossain. A 14-year-old girl named Amina Khatun the daughter of a voter from the Arambagh area, was also caught in the blast while accompanying her family member.

All three received quick first aid at a nearby clinic, and their injuries were described as minor.
Police rushed to the scene, collected evidence, and beefed up security around the center to make sure nothing else disrupted the process. Later, Voting carried on without further interruptions, and the situation was brought under control.

This election carries huge weight for the country. It’s the first time Bangladeshis are choosing new leadership after the upheaval forced Sheikh Hasina out of power.

Despite this isolated violent episode in Gopalganj, reports from most places says polling has proceeded smoothly under heavy security. Authorities tried their best bets to keep things peaceful as the nation moves forward into a new era.
