Constitution Day 2025: President Murmu Unveils Digital Constitution in 9 Indian Languages

India marked its 76th Constitution Day with a national ceremony held at the historic Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, the old Parliament building, on Wednesday. 

President Droupadi Murmu presided over the event and released newly translated digital versions of the Constitution in nine Indian languages: Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia and Assamese.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Murmu said the Constitution continues to inspire the nation’s progress and democratic spirit. 

Highlighting India’s achievements over the past decade, she noted, “Bringing 25 crore people out of poverty is one of the biggest achievements of the country. Our Constitution-makers wanted our personal, democratic rights to be always protected.”

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs earlier announced that this year’s national function would return to the Central Hall, indicating its symbolic association with the formation of the Republic and the adoption of the Constitution on November 26, 1949.

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, addressing the gathering, said the “soul of our Constitution” affirms India’s unity and reflects a steadfast commitment to social justice and economic empowerment of the weaker sections. 

“Bharat is one and will remain united forever,” he said.

Since 2015 Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Diwas has been observed annually on November 26 to honour the legacy of the Constituent Assembly and to promote constitutional values among citizens.

The event concluded with the reading of the Preamble and a pledge to uphold constitutional ideals, reinforcing the nation’s democratic ethos.
