League Cracks Down: Suárez Banned for Conduct in Seattle Defeat

6 September-Kolkata, India: The league has suspended Inter Miami striker and Uruguayan football legend Luis Suarez for a six-match ban in the upcoming new season for his on-field conduct of spitting at the Seattle Sounders coach after Inter Miami lost the final by 3-0.

The league may also ban Suarez from playing for Inter Miami next season, and the ban could extend into future seasons, too. In order to reach the final, Inter Miami participated in six Leagues Cup games this year: three in the group stage and three in the knockout stage.

Additionally, the league suspended Sounders coach Steven Lenhart for five games, Inter Miami’s Tomás Avilés for three games, and Sergio Busquets for two games for their roles in the postgame altercation following Seattle’s 3-0 victory.

Authorities fine the perpetrators.

People know Luis Suarez for his disgusting behaviour and inhuman antics, especially the 2010 handball incident against Ghana to book a spot in the semifinals. He also served various suspensions, especially for three infamous occasions where he bit his opponents, especially the latest of which occurred in 2014, after he slammed into Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder after a brawl in the penalty area during a World Cup game.

Long-time Inter Miami teammate Lionel Messi’s teammate Suárez appeared to spit in the direction of a Sounders employee after grabbing at least one Seattle player by the neck during a postgame altercation. Suárez issued an apology on Thursday, and MLS officials are also investigating the situation.

Suarez said “Things happened right after the match that shouldn’t have happened, but that doesn’t justify my reaction. I was wrong and I sincerely regret it,” he wrote. “It’s not the image I want to portray, neither to my family, who are suffering because of my mistakes, nor to my club, which doesn’t deserve to be affected by something like this.”
