Wife Burnt Alive in Navi Mumbai, Child Witness Reveals Truth
Navi Mumbai
A shocking murder case has come to light after a man killed his wife by setting her ablaze and tried to disguise it as a suicide. A key eyewitness his own seven-year-old daughter revealed the truth, turning the case around.
The incident occurred early on August 25 in their home in Pagotegaon. The victim, Jagrani Sahu (32), suffered fatal burn injuries. Her husband, 35-year-old truck driver Rajkumar Sahu, initially told police that his wife had locked herself in a room and committed suicide. He seemed further credible when the door to the house was unlocked. Police began their investigation under the assumption of accidental death.
However, the atmosphere shifted when officers questioned the coupleโs seven-year-old daughter, who witnessed the crime. She told a lady constable that her father tied her motherโs hands and feet, poured kerosene over her, and set her on fire using a cigarette lighter. Her statement cast doubt on her fatherโs version of events.
In addition to the child’s testimony, CCTV footage from the area supported the claim that Sahu was near the house with his daughter that morning contradicting his claim of being away on duty. That footage and other inconsistencies led officers to register a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Sahu later confessed to the crime, admitting he suspected his wife of having an affair. Neighbors shared that Rajkumar had a history of domestic abuse and struggled with addiction. They described frequent quarrels triggered by minor issues.
Police arrested Rajkumar and took the young daughter into protective custody under the care of the Child Welfare Committee. Authorities are continuing the investigation to ensure justice for the victim and her children.
