Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: BBMP Issues Idol Immersion Guidelines; Transport Dept Warns Against Bus Fare Hikes

With Ganesh Chaturthi just days away, Bengaluru is gearing up for a festive yet eco-friendly celebration. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced comprehensive guidelines for idol immersion, while the Transport Department has warned private bus operators against fare hikes during the festive rush.

To simplify procedures, the BBMP has set up 75 One-Window Centers across the city, where devotees can obtain permissions for idol installation.

Idol Immersion Facilities

This year, the civic body has arranged multiple options to ease the immersion process:

41 permanent and temporary immersion tanks (Kalyanis) across lakes.

489 mobile immersion tanks at ward levels for convenient access.

BBMP has also appointed nodal officers to oversee the immersions. Citizens can access detailed information on the BBMP website or scan a dedicated QR code for real-time updates.

Restrictions & Special Arrangements

Herohalli Lake (RR Nagar Zone): Idol immersion has been discontinued this year due to technical reasons.

Yediyur Lake: Special arrangements are in place. From August 27 to September 17, 2025, the public can immerse only eco-friendly clay idols at this site.

Push for Eco-Friendly Celebrations

Reiterating its environmental appeal, the BBMP has urged citizens to avoid idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) or chemical paints. The focus remains on sustainable and safe celebrations across the city.

Crackdown on Bus Fare Hikes

Meanwhile, the Transport Department has issued a stern warning to private bus operators against fare exploitation. Officials noted that during previous festive seasons, fares were often doubled or tripled.

This year, any violations will attract strict penalties, including:

Cancellation of bus permits

Blacklisting of vehicles

Denial of Fitness Certificates (FC) for offenders

Ten special inspection teams have been deployed across Bengaluruโ€™s RTO jurisdictions, while a dedicated helpline has been launched for passengers to register complaints.

A Disciplined, Hassle-Free Festivity

With BBMPโ€™s tech-enabled immersion facilities and the Transport Departmentโ€™s enforcement drive, Bengaluru is poised for a disciplined, eco-friendly, and citizen-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi 2025.
