Blaze Erupts in Shi-Yomi District

A fire broke out in the boys’ hostel of Papikrong Government Residential School in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi-Yomi district between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Sunday. The flames engulfed the wooden structure while the children slept, turning the hostel into ashes within minutes.

Ten-Year-Old Student Loses Life

The blaze killed a 10-year-old boy who could not escape in time. Officials confirmed that the child’s body was charred and that the identification process continues. The shocking loss of such a young life has devastated the school community and the families living nearby.

Three Children Sustain Injuries

Three other boys—Lukhi Pujen (8), Tanu Pujen (9), and Tayi Pujen (11)—suffered injuries during the fire. Doctors at Zonal General Hospital in Aalo began treating them soon after their transfer from Tato. Medical teams now monitor their condition closely to ensure a full recovery.

Police and Rescue Teams Rush to Site

As soon as authorities received word of the fire, police and rescue teams rushed to Papikrong village, about 17 kilometers from Monigong town. They worked through the night to manage the crisis and examine the charred hostel. The location of the school, close to the last Indian Army post at Tadadege, made the response difficult, yet the teams acted without delay.

Probe Begins into Cause of Fire

Officials launched an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze. Education Minister and local MLA Pasang Dorjee Sona suggested that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. However, investigators continue to examine the site to confirm the exact reason behind the tragedy.

Minister Promises Relief and Support

Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona expressed deep sorrow after the incident. He assured immediate relief for the victims’ families and pledged government assistance for the injured students. Through his official statement, he also directed the district administration and school authorities to carry out a thorough probe. While offering condolences to the bereaved family, he prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured children and promised every possible step to support them during this crisis.
