Trump Imposed Sanctions on India to End Russia-Ukraine War

20 August-Kolkata, India: The White House claims that U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed sanctions on India because he wants to stop the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible.

Trump imposed a 50% tariff on India, implemented a 25% tariff on 31st July as part of the tariff implementation for over 60 nations, and imposed an additional 25% on 6th August due to the nation’s link with their Cold War rivals, Russia, and the purchase of their oil.The US President also charged India with becoming the engine of the Russian war machine.

White House Press Secretary on Trump

Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary, stated in a public press conference on Tuesday that the US President is facing โ€œtremendous public pressureโ€ to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, and that his actions against India are part of this pressure.

She said that “The President has put tremendous public pressure to bring this war to a close. He has taken actions as you seen sanctions on India and other actions as well. He has made himself very clear that he wants to see this war and he has rejected the ideas of others that have been raised that we should wait another month before any meetings takes place. The President wants to move forward and bring war to an end as quickly as possible.”

However, the US President hasn’t yet placed any restrictions or tariffs on Russia, though. Rather, he has consistently agreed to Russia’s demands and placed Ukraine in a difficult situation.

Trump’s other operations against India

The strategic relationship between India and the United States has reached to its weakest point in years as a result of Donald Trump’s tariffs on India and several other activities, including his interference in the Kashmir dispute, his undermining of India on Operation Sindoor, and his alliance with Pakistan.

The two nations’ trade negotiations have also come to a standstill. India and the United States were on the verge of concluding a draft agreement in July when Trump stepped in and made additional, unreasonable demands that caused the negotiations to come to a pause.
