Kerala Forex Scam: Zara FX Under ED Lens For Money Laundering
On August 8, 2025, the Enforcement Directorate conducted coordinated raids at four locations across Kerala, including Kannur, Malappuram, and Kozhikode. They targeted the controversial forex trading platform Zara FX, registered in Cyprus. Investigators focused on allegations of fraudulent foreign exchange (forex) schemes that lured investors with unrealistic promises of high returns and relied on mule accounts to channel funds illegally.
Fraudulent Model Unveiled
The ED revealed that Zara FX collected deposits through personal bank accounts to disguise illicit operations. They moved money through layers of virtual and real-world accounts, hiding the source of funds under the guise of speculative trading. Authorities have unearthed evidence that the syndicate used part of the money for foreign exchange trading abroad, while diverting some to personal gain. The agency seized numerous electronic devices and a hard disk believed to hold crucial evidence. They also froze bank accounts containing approximately โน3.9 crore, suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Complaints Prompt Legal Action
This action follows criminal complaints that Kerala Police filed against Zara FXโs CEO, Jamsheer TV, and others, accusing them of cheating and criminal conspiracy. The ED now leads the probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, expanding its focus to trace assets, apprehend perpetrators, and uncover the full network behind the scheme.
These platforms wrap themselves in the legitimacy of global finance. Unregulated digital schemes prey on genuine investors, especially when authorities lag behind. Without swift action, schemes like Zara FX erode trust in financial systems and leave ordinary people with nothing but regrets.
We need stronger enforcement of forex regulations, early warnings, and public awareness. Criminals exploit regulatory blind spots and technical opacity. The message today must be clear: financial tricksters cannot hide behind glossy websites.
