Crew-11 Reaches ISS in 15 Hours

NASA’s Crew-11 mission reached the International Space Station (ISS) early on August 2, 2025, just fifteen hours after liftoff from Florida. The flight was one of the fastest crewed trips to the ISS by the United States. This milestone reflects the increasing efficiency of commercial spaceflight under NASA’s partnership with SpaceX.

Launch Took Place from Kennedy Space Center

The mission launched at 11:43 a.m. Eastern Time on August 1 from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center. The crew flew aboard the Dragon spacecraft “Endeavour,” which rode atop a Falcon 9 rocket. Onboard were four astronauts from three space agencies. NASA’s Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke were joined by JAXA’s Kimiya Yui and Roscosmos’s Oleg Platonov. Notably, this marked the fifth human spaceflight for the Endeavour capsule.

Docking Occurred Early the Next Morning

After entering orbit, the capsule followed an express route to the station. It docked smoothly with the forward-facing port of the Harmony module at 2:26 a.m. on August 2. Following standard checks for pressurization and safety, the crew opened the hatch. Soon after, they entered the ISS and joined the Expedition 71 team.

Astronauts Begin Six-Month Mission

The Crew-11 astronauts began their six-month stay on the ISS without delay. During this period, they will conduct a wide range of scientific experiments. These include studies in biology, space medicine, Earth science, and new technologies. In addition, they will assist with maintaining vital station systems. Their work will also contribute to missions planned for the Moon and Mars.

Dragon Capsule Proves Its Reliability

The Dragon capsule used for this mission had already flown four times before. It previously carried astronauts on NASA’s Demo-2, Crew-2, and Crew-6 missions, along with the private Axiom-1 mission. This fifth flight strengthens its record as a safe and reusable vehicle. Clearly, SpaceX continues to prove the strength of its design and operational systems.

Commercial Partnership Achieves Another Milestone

NASA’s collaboration with SpaceX continues to deliver reliable results. The 15-hour flight time ranks among the fastest ever for a U.S. crewed mission. While Russian Soyuz capsules have docked in under three hours, this mission sets a strong benchmark for NASA.
