Jaya Bachchan Questions Operation Sindoor Name in Rajya Sabha

Samajwadi Party MP and veteran actor Jaya Bachchan criticised the naming of Operation Sindoor during a debate in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
She questioned why the operation was named after sindoor, when the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam had “destroyed the sindoor of so many women.”

Condolences for Victims of Pahalgam Attack

Bachchan began her address by expressing condolences to the families of the 26 civilians killed in the Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley.
She described the incident as tragic and said the attack shattered many lives.

MP Questions Naming and Government Narrative

Addressing members on the treasury benches, Bachchan said, “I would congratulate you on the writers you have hired. You give grand names. Why did you name it Sindoor? The sindoor has been destroyed. The wives of those killed have lost everything.”
She criticised the symbolism, saying the name felt insensitive in light of the loss suffered by the victims’ families.

Bachchan faced interruptions from ruling party MPs during her speech.
She responded sharply, saying, “Either you speak or I will speak. When you speak, I don’t interrupt. When a woman speaks, I never interrupt. So please mind your tongue.”
The tension in the House increased as the argument continued.

Tense Moment with Fellow MP

During the speech, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, seated beside Bachchan, tried to calm her down.
Bachchan reacted strongly and said, “Priyanka, don’t control me,” while Chaturvedi responded with a smile.
The exchange added to the drama inside the Rajya Sabha.

MP Questions Intelligence Failure

Bachchan also questioned the government over the intelligence failure that led to the terror attack.
She said the government failed to protect innocent lives.
“You have destroyed the faith of the people. The families will never forgive you,” she added.

As of now, the central government has not responded to Jaya Bachchan’s remarks or provided clarification on the operation’s name.
