Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has expressed optimism about a strong US-India partnership, stating that India seeks preferential treatment over competitors. “All options are open, but we want better market access compared to our peers,” he said.

Geopolitical Shadows and External Pressures

India’s cautious approach is also influenced by other US trade moves, including deals with Japan and ongoing talks with countries like Vietnam. Additionally, Trump has floated the idea of a blanket 10% tariff on all BRICS nations and hinted at 100% secondary tariffs on countries importing Russian crude moves that could significantly impact India’s economic landscape.
