Asim Munir’s Beijing Visit Raises Eyebrows in New Delhi

July 26 -Kolkata, India: India closely monitors the recent updated travel plan changes of Pakistan’s newly hired Field Marshal and Army Chief Asim Munir. The newly appointed Field Marshal and Army Chief skipped his visit to Sri Lanka and Indonesia and, rather, hurried to visit Beijing to meet China’s Foreign Minister and some other military leaders.

Since Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s foreign minister and deputy prime minister, is now in Washington meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, observers view the visit as an act of compromise.

During the meeting between Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir and Wang Yi, the Chinese Foreign Minister, reportedly expressed his worries about the situation of the current safety and security of Chinese nationals, projects and institutions in Pakistan.

India On Asim Munir’s Surprise China Visit

According to some sources, the Pakistani military is trying to strike a delicate partnership between China and the US to stand against India and demonstrate the importance of Pakistan in South Asia.

Kirti Vardhan Singh, the MoS MEA highlighted on this issue and said that “India has repeatedly raised its concerns regarding the US support to Pakistan’s military infrastructure.”

He further added some more statements on this issue and stated that “Government of India closely monitors all military and security-related developments in its neighbourhood and regularly takes up our concerns in this regard in our interactions with our partners at an appropriate level.”

One thing stands out from Munir’s preference for China over Sri Lanka and Indonesia, Islamabad is still very reliant on Beijing and is vulnerable to Chinese influence.
