Meghalaya Honeymoon Turns Tragic: New CCTV Clip Deepens Mystery, Woman Still Missing

A woman hailing from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore went missing along with her husband on May 23 after they checked out of a homestay at Nongriat village in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district during their honeymoon. While the body of the man, Raja Raghuvanshi, was found, the search is still underway for Sonam.

Meanwhile, a new CCTV footage has emerged shwoing their arriving at a homestay in Shillong on a scooter to possibly drop off their luggage. Moments after arriving at the homestay, they went again on their scooty, a new video accessed by T7 news channel showed.

The footage captures the couple arriving at Shipara Homestay on a rented scooty. Raja is seen parking the vehicle while Sonam takes off her jacket. At one point, Raja is spotted sitting at the homestay’s doorstep, handing something to his wife. Another clip shows Raja inside the reception area, seemingly checking out, while Sonam waits outside alone on the scooty.

Earlier footage had shown the couple checking into a hotel in Shillong. A day after they were reported missing, their rented scooty was found abandoned in Sohrarim.

A 3000-step trek turned into a nightmare for an Indore couple on a honeymoon in Meghalaya. What began as a dream trip through the lush monsoon trails came to a tragic halt for the newlywed couple – Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi. They had set off on a trip, carrying with them a rented scooter, a borrowed waterproof smartwatch, and boundless excitement. But their journey ended abruptly after the trek to the famed living root bridges in Nongriat.

The couple reached Mawlakhiyat village on May 22 and began the steep descent to Nongriat. They spent the night at a homestay, surrounded by mist and forest quiet. But when they checked out the next morning, they vanished without a trace. Two days later, their scooter was found abandoned near a café on the Shillong-Sohra road. Days passed in silence—until Raja’s decomposed body was discovered deep in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls. A raincoat – size 3XL – was later recovered in nearby Mawkma village, possibly belonging to the couple.

“There is no doubt it was a murder,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said. “We have recovered a dao. It was new and used for this very purpose.”
