‘Sapphire’: Ed Sheeran Drops Track Featuring Arijit Singh

      British pop artist Ed Sheeran has come out with his latest single, “Sapphire” on 5th June which combines elements of Western pop and Punjabi music. The song with Indian playback singer Arijit Singh is set to serve as the third single off Sheeran’s album Play, which is set to release on September 12, 2025. 

      ‘Sapphire’ serves as Sheeran’s first collaboration with an Indian artist which demonstrates the artist’s willingness to explore new cultures through music. The song blends his signature style with Indian instruments including Sitar that was played by Singh. Sheeran singing, “Cham Cham Chamke Sitare Vargi” adds Punjabi flair to the song which means “sparkling like the stars.”  Within a day, the music  video has surpassed 6.4million views reflecting instant global appeal.

       Direction for the music video was led by Liam Pethick which features several locations in India like Kolkata and Hyderabad. The video has Ed Sheeran  riding auto-rickshaws, dancing with the locals, shopping, and most importantly embracing the rich culture. Arijit Singh’s presence adds to the depth and soul of the track. The icing on the cake was Bollywood’s superstar Shah Rukh Khan appearing in the video where he lip-synced a segment of the chorus gathering the appreciation of millions. 

       Sheeran’s embracement of Indian culture does not end with the music video. During his trip to India, he was spotted with Arijit Singh enjoying a peaceful scooty ride in his hometown. With the release of Ed’s album ‘Play’ looming on the horizon ,’Sapphire’ is a beacon of Sheeran’s artistic development and his dedication to drawing inspiration from  world music.
