Three Arrested in ₹50 Lakh Robbery Case in Salt Lake GC Block

KOLKATA: In a swift operation, Bidhannagar South Police arrested three individuals linked to a daring robbery of around ₹50 lakh from an office located in GC Block, Salt Lake, in the early hours of last Thursday.
The accused — Zumrati Molla (identified as the mastermind), along with his associates Rahim Ali and Rinku Sheikh — were apprehended late Friday night following separate raids across the Tangra area.

An investigating officer said, “We have identified four more suspects linked to this gang. Raids are ongoing to trace and apprehend them.” Authorities have ruled out any insider involvement after the preliminary investigation.

Recovery of Stolen Cash Expected

The trio is currently in police custody, with officers expressing hope of recovering a substantial portion of the stolen cash during further questioning.
Investigators revealed that the same gang had earlier targeted a doctor’s residence in HB Block, Salt Lake, in January, stealing gold ornaments worth lakhs while the owner was away.
Although some members were arrested at that time, they were granted bail in February and resumed criminal activities shortly after.

Pattern of Crimes Across the City

Following their release, the gang allegedly committed burglaries and robberies in Dum Dum, North Bidhannagar, and Sonapur areas.
“They typically moved across the city on motorcycles, targeting homes they believed were unoccupied during the night,” an officer explained.

The breakthrough in the case came through detailed analysis of CCTV footage, descriptions from patrolling officers, and intelligence gathered from local sources. Based on these leads, police conducted coordinated raids resulting in the arrests.

Robbery Details: How It Happened

The robbery took place around 2 a.m. on Thursday at GC 184, Salt Lake.
The culprits broke open the lock of a ground-floor office — rented out to a private egg dealership firm by an NRI homeowner — and stole cash and valuables worth nearly ₹50 lakh.
They also used the internal staircase, typically accessed by the homeowner during visits, to move upstairs during the burglary.

High-Speed Chase and Escape

While fleeing on two motorcycles without number plates, the burglars were spotted by a police patrol team.
Despite a high-speed chase, the accused managed to escape after brandishing a firearm and disappearing into narrow lanes and alleys.

Further Investigation Underway

Police sources confirmed that multiple raids are still underway to arrest the remaining members of the gang.
Investigations are ongoing, and a major recovery of stolen property is expected soon.
