Ernakulam MP tells Kerala CM: Act Now on Mihir’s Death, Stop School Ragging

Thiruvananthapuram, January 31, 2025 – The shocking suicide of 15-year-old Mihir Ahammed, a student of Global Public School, Thiruvaniyoor, has taken a new turn as Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden has written to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, demanding an urgent Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the circumstances surrounding Mihir’s death.

The MP’s letter, marked by “profound urgency and distress,” lays out damning allegations of brutal ragging, racial abuse, and institutional negligence, calling for immediate intervention to ensure justice.

Key Allegations: A Disturbing Pattern of Abuse and Negligence

In his letter, Hibi Eden MP highlights the following critical points:

1. Extreme Ragging and Racial Harassment: Mihir was subjected to violent bullying, including being forced to lick a toilet seat, having his head flushed in a toilet, and enduring racial slurs targeting his skin color.

2. Institutional Apathy and Alleged Cover-Up: Despite an FIR (No. 42/2025) at Hill Palace Police Station, the school administration has failed to act and is allegedly intimidating students to suppress evidence. Reports indicate that the Instagram page “Justice for Mihir”—created by his friends—was deleted under pressure.

3. Prior Harassment at GEMS Kochi: Mihir’s mother, Rajna P.M., has also petitioned the Child Commission, alleging harassment by the vice principal of GEMS Kochi, Mihir’s previous school.

Grave Concerns: Evidence Tampering and Witness Intimidation

The MP’s letter raises fears of evidence tampering, witness intimidation, and systemic failure in enforcing anti-ragging and child protection laws. It warns that crucial digital evidence—such as social media chats and CCTV footage—could be erased unless authorities act swiftly. Students and families willing to testify fear retaliation, underscoring the urgent need for protection measures.

Demands for Immediate Action

Hibi Eden MP has made the following urgent requests to Kerala’s Chief Minister:

1. SIT Investigation: A time-bound, impartial probe into ragging, institutional failures, and a potential cover-up by the school.

2. Preservation of Digital Evidence: Cybercrime authorities must secure deleted social media posts and school records before they are permanently lost.

3. Witness Protection: Authorities must safeguard students and families willing to testify.

4. Accountability for the School: An investigation must be launched into Global Public School’s negligence under the Kerala Education Act and Juvenile Justice Act.

5. Inquiry into Prior Harassment: The Child Commission must probe the vice principal of GEMS Kochi for alleged past mistreatment of Mihir.

A Larger Fight for Justice

The letter emphasizes that Mihir’s case is not an isolated tragedy but part of a wider failure to enforce anti-ragging laws and child protection policies in Kerala’s schools. The MP insists that swift action is needed to send a strong message against caste- and color-based discrimination.

Will Mihir Get Justice?

As the call for a thorough investigation grows louder, the question remains—will Kerala’s government take decisive action to hold the perpetrators and complicit institutions accountable, or will another young life be lost to a broken system that fails to protect its most vulnerable?
