Restrictions Imposed by Bengaluru Police on Phoenix Mall of Asia Prior to New Year Festivities
December 30, 2023
With the impending New Year celebrations, Bengaluru Police have taken preemptive measures by issuing a directive restricting public access to the Phoenix Mall of Asia situated on Bellari Road in North Bengaluru. Effective from December 31 to January 15, the order invokes sections 144(1) and 144(2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Commissioner B Dayananda of Bengaluru City Police emphasized the necessity of these measures to maintain public tranquility, ensure traffic flow, and address parking space shortages causing inconvenience to the public.
The directive specifically aims to prevent disturbances, offenses, and obstructions that may arise during the festive period. “This restriction is vital to address concerns and maintain order during the New Year celebrations and in the subsequent days,” Commissioner B Dayananda stated.
Additionally, the directive allows individuals affected by the order to file petitions under section 144(5) of the Cr.PC for potential modifications or cancellations of the imposed restrictions.
Issued as an emergency measure, the directive acknowledges the urgency to act swiftly, consequently precluding hearings for affected parties due to the immediacy of the situation.
The imposed restrictions underscore the Bengaluru Police’s commitment to ensuring public safety, particularly during festive periods, prioritizing smooth traffic flow and overall regional orderliness.
Affected individuals seeking further information or wishing to address concerns outlined in the directive are advised to approach the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner’s office.
The directive will be effective from 10 a.m. on December 31, 2023, until 11:59 p.m. on January 15, 2024.
