Class 11 Student Commits Suicide Allegedly Due to Caste-Based Violence

In a tragic incident, a Class 11 student from a government school in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukottai district took his own life by hanging himself at his residence on November 2 (Thursday). The student’s parents and classmates have come forward with disturbing allegations, claiming that he was a victim of caste-based violence.

According to the grieving family and classmates, the young student had been subjected to relentless caste-based discrimination after being seen interacting with girls from another community in his class. These innocent interactions were reportedly centered around discussing their studies. Regrettably, these seemingly harmless connections resulted in severe mistreatment and prejudice against the student.

Initially, the police treated the incident as a suicide case. However, following the strong complaint by the boy’s anguished parents, the case has now been refiled under the Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST Act. This decision reveals the gravity of the situation and the authorities’ determination to address the issue with all due seriousness.

The untimely demise of this young student serves as a painful reminder of the lingering social inequalities that continue to plague our society. It sheds light on the urgent need for educational institutions and society at large to foster an environment that promotes inclusivity, respect, and harmony among students from diverse backgrounds.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among the community and calls for immediate action to ensure justice for the bereaved family. It is hoped that this heartbreaking incident will serve as a catalyst for change, propelling society to confront the deeply rooted prejudices that lead to such tragic outcomes.
