As part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged signature forgery case, the CID of West Bengal Police on Tuesday conducted raids at two important Trinamool Congress offices in Kolkata: one on Camac Street connected to Abhishek Banerjee and one close to former chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence.

However, when there was an increased presence of a large number of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Kolkata Police personnel at the spot, there was a sudden change of plan. However, despite feeling nervous regarding what would unfold, it was not long before CID officials entered the office premises to start their search.

After their arrival at the Camac Street office premises on Tuesday evening, it seems CID officials met with resistance from employees at the office.

The CID team entered the office and started its search once police officers from Shakespeare Sarani Police Station arrived.

“The searches on the site on Camac Street took three hours and that on the site on Harish Chatterjee Street took about two hours,” said an official. There have been no substantial seizures from both the sites by the agency.

The top TMC officials including MLAs Kunal Ghosh and Madan Mitra reached the residence of the party supremo soon after hearing about the searches, but were not allowed inside.

Subhasish Chakraborty, a former Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP, prevented the CID from entering the premises at the very outset on Tuesday. Our leader Mamata Banerjee is out of the country and visiting Delhi. Everybody knows that. This case has nothing to do with her. So why is it necessary for you to search her home? Chakraborty remarked.

Ghosh, one of the first high-ranking officials to arrive at Mamata’s home, denounced the search. “The former chief minister, a national leader, resides in this residence. It is regrettable to enter her home in this way while she is away because she is in Delhi for the INDIA bloc meeting. The CID is entitled to conduct an investigation. We have always complied with their requests. However, it is regrettable and condemnable that the CID invaded her home with such impatience, he stated.

As per Kalyan, the chief minister called in the police. As the previous chief minister wasn’t present, Suvendu Adhikari sent the police to their house. There is no democracy in Bengal. Bengal’s democracy is over.

Both Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee reportedly attended the Opposition INDIA bloc meeting on Monday while they were in New Delhi.
