MP Kalyan Banerjee’s ultimatum to Mamata during the TMC dispute: “Choose between Abhishek and me”

Senior advocate and MP Kalyan Banerjee issues ultimatum to Mamata Banerjee

TMC’s senior leader and MP Kalyan Banerjee requested his party boss Mamata Banerjee to decide between her nephew Abhishek Banerjee and other senior leaders. Furthermore, Kalyan Banerjee alleged that the national general secretary of the political party was arrogant and had an ever-changing point of view.

In addition, the senior lawyer announced that he will not defend Abhishek Banerjee in court anymore. His ruling followed Abhishek’s appeal against a summons from the West Bengal CID in the legislators’ signature mismatch case.

A separate writ petition was allegedly filed by the Diamond Harbour MP regarding the search operations carried out by the agency at the TMC office at Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence and Abhishek’s Camac Street office. This information allegedly caused the rift between the two leaders to reach a breaking point. KalyanṢ had been representing Abhishek in the Calcutta High Court in a signature forgery case of the CID.

“The two instances are related, and I brought up the search operation issue in front of the bench that was considering the signature forging case. The case was scheduled to be heard on Thursday by the court. Subsequently, I was informed by some Abhishek emissaries that a separate writ had been filed on the CID raid matter. Since I was unaware of it, I was surprised,” Kalyan told reporters.

“I wouldn’t have brought up the issue with the judge if I had known that two different benches couldn’t hear the same case. Since Abhishek has a lot of advisors, I have informed the party that I would not represent him in any future legal proceedings because it is hard to deal with such conceit and erratic thinking. Later on, I was told that a junior attorney would challenge his cases,” Kalyan stated.

As Kalyan suggests, Banerjee must make her choice as to whether she will govern the TMC through her nephew or through the loyalists of her own party.

“I am with Mamata Banerjee, but Didi must decide between the TMC and Abhishek.” Mamata di must make a decision first. I won’t be there if she can’t lead the party without Abhishek,” the senior advocate and four-time Lok Sabha MP stated.

“He (Abhishek) believes that everyone is beneath him and that they are all just Camac Street employees. I have forty-five years of experience in this field. As a senior advocate, who doesn’t know me? Put this court aside; even members of the Supreme Court are familiar with me. But he no longer respects anyone and has grown so conceited. I have stepped away because of this,” he continued.

His remarks come at a time when the party led by Mamata Banerjee, which has been ruling Bengal for 15 years now, is going through one of its worst crises ever because of a landslide electoral defeat.
