G7 Extends Invitation to PM Modi as India’s Global Influence Grows

16 June 2026:The 52nd meeting of the G7 Summit is happening today in Evial, France. The leaders from the G7 group of seven nations are. They will be joined by people from China, India, Brazil, Kenya and South Korea.

This year the G7 Summit is really focused on the wars that are going on in Ukraine and Iran. The war between Russia and Ukraine is still happening. On Monday about 11 people were killed when Russia attacked near the Kyiv cathedral. Iran and the US are trying to find a way to resolve their issues.

The Incharge of G7 France includes Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union. The G7 leaders who are attending the meeting are Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister Mark Carney, US President  Donal Trump, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The European Union will be represented by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council.

At the G7 Meeting French President Emmanuel Macron has also invited heads of state including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto.

The official website of the French Presidency of the G7 Summit 2026 says that the goals of this year’s G7 Summit are:

1. Settling geopolitical crises, including helping Ukraine and the Ukrainian people through the G7.

2. Focusing on childhood from helping kids develop to keeping them online.

3. Stopping organized crime and illegal activities.

4. Creating rules for global governance, which is really important, for the G7 Summit.

Officials further mentioned that India’s participation underlines its role as an important voice in international discussions and reflects the growing importance attached to its perspectives on major global challenges. The presence of PM Modi with the world leaders during the summit as countries deliberate on a range of global economic, security and development issues.
