The BJP’s landslide in Bengal, Mamata Banerjee declines to step down and declares a “moral victory.”

Mamata Banerjee, the outgoing chief minister of West Bengal, attacked the BJP on Tuesday, claiming that “they can defeat Trinamool Congress through the Election Commission” but “morally we won the election”, and that she has not lost the assembly elections and will not go to Raj Bhavan to submit her resignation. In an interview with the media the day following the results of the assembly election, which saw the BJP secure a two-thirds majority and the Trinamool Congress win 80 seats, Mamata Banerjee stated that she will help strengthen the INDIA team while pointing out that she is “a commoner” and does not currently have “any chair.”

Unwillingness to Step Down

“I didn’t lose, I won’t quit, and I won’t visit Raj Bhavan. The question doesn’t come up. No. I should also mention that we won the election. They’re trying to beat us. They can officially beat us through the Election Commission, but we won the election in a moral sense,” Mamata Banerjee said in a media conference on Tuesday.

Banerjee said that almost 100 seats were “stolen” from her party and accused widespread violations. She accused the Indian Election Commission of failing to guarantee a fair election. She claimed that officials behaved in a biased manner and that polling and counting procedures were affected.

She also raised concerns about openness by claiming that her team and counting agents were not given appropriate access at crucial times. “Why couldn’t we enter?” Banerjee questioned in the press conference on Tuesday, “Who was in charge of the process?”

Banerjee levelled a serious charge against herself of being assaulted at a polling station. She called it “an embarrassing situation, in which they kicked me and threw me out”. In addition, Banerjee accused the police enforcement agencies of failing to act.

The leader of the Trinamool Congress mentioned the support that she had been getting from her political adversaries since the election process.

 “I got calls/messages from Sonia ji, Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, and Hemant Soren. . All my supporters of the India Alliance have assured me of their full support,” Mamata Banerjee said in the media conference on Tuesday

The results of the West Bengal assembly election became historical for the BJP, which managed to secure 206 seats and a two-thirds majority. It indicated a shift of the centre of political gravity in West Bengal and brought an end to the long rule of Trinamool Congress.
