28 April 2026: There was an argument in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal on Tuesday. Supporters of the Trinamool Congress party were protesting. They said Ajay Pal Sharma, a police officer appointed by the Election Commission was scaring their workers. This happened before the phase of voting.
The protests happened in Falta. The supporters shouted outside the home and election office of Jahangir Khan, their party candidate. They were angry with Ajay Pal Sharma and his way of dealing with the masses.
Some senior leaders of the party said Sharma was doing more than his job. Sharma went to areas where people complained that Jahangir Khan’s friends were taking away voter ID cards. They were also threatening people.
During his visit Sharma said strict action would be taken if anyone tried to scare voters before the elections. He is known for being a police officer. People call him “Singham” of UP police told by Amit Malviya on Tuesday to Times of India.
There is a video going around that shows Sharma warning Jahangir Khan’s family. He said, “Tell him we will deal with him properly if his men continue to threaten. Don’t. Regret it then” on Tuesday by Hindustan Times. Jahangir Khan responded strongly. He said, “This is Bengal. If he is ‘Singham’ I am Pushpa” of West Bengal reported by Republic Bangla.
He said Sharma and other police officials appointed by the BJP could not prove that there were threats. Khan also said that Sharma threatened his supporters. He tried to put pressure on them. and attempts were made to digress TMC supporters.
Aroop Biswas, a leader of the Trinamool Congress party said that election observers should stay neutral. They should work within the law so that elections can happen peacefully.
