The Rajasthan Royals pulled off a sensational six-wicket victory against the Punjab Kings at Mullanpur on Tuesday. Chasing a massive target of 223, the Royals reached the finish line with four balls to spare. This result marks the first defeat of the season for the table-topping Kings in a game that saw over 440 runs scored.

The match lived up to the hype as both teams traded heavy blows throughout the night. While the Royals looked to be in trouble during the middle overs, a late surge ensured they completed their third-highest chase in tournament history. The victory moves the visitors up to third place on the points table, further intensifying the playoff race.

Stoinis Power Propels Punjab

The Kings posted a formidable 222/4 thanks to a breathtaking assault from Marcus Stoinis. Stoinis smashed an unbeaten 62 off just 22 deliveries, punishing the Rajasthan bowlers in the final overs. His “Hulk” act turned a good total into a mammoth one, leaving the Royals with a mountain to climb.

Earlier, Prabhsimran Singh laid a solid foundation with a well-made 59 off 44 balls. He shared aggressive partnerships with Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly, ensuring the Kings maintained a run rate of over ten throughout the innings. Despite some disciplined leg-spin from Yash Raj Punja, the home side looked firmly in control at the halfway mark.

Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi Ignite the Chase

The Royals response was nothing short of explosive, racking up 84 runs within the powerplay. Young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played a fearless cameo of 43 off 16 balls to set the tempo. Yashasvi Jaiswal then took over the mantle, anchoring the innings with a brilliant 51 off 27 balls to keep the Royals ahead of the required rate.

However, a mid-innings collapse triggered by Yuzvendra Chahal threatened to derail the pursuit. Chahalโ€™s three wickets brought the Kings back into the contest, as the stadium erupted with every breakthrough. The pressure shifted back to the visitors as the required run rate began to creep toward 12 runs per over.

With the game on the line, Donovan Ferreira played a match-winning hand for the Royals. Ferreira remained unbeaten on 52 off 26 balls, finding the gaps with surgical precision. Alongside Shubham Dubey, he forged a 77-run partnership that took the game away from the Kings in the closing stages.

The Royals eventually crossed the target in the final over, silencing the Mullanpur crowd. While the Kings will be disappointed with their first loss, they still remain at the top of the standings. For Rajasthan, this win serves as a massive confidence booster as they head into the business end of the season.
