18 April,2026: Ravi Chandan Ashwin Veteran Indian off-spinner has supported Sanju Samson as a good candidate for the position of captainship for Chennai Super King’s. He further added “The mantle passing over. if you ask me, I mean, I’ am no astrologer, but all I can tell you is I do see Sanju captaining CSK at some stage”.
Ashwin reflected upon the fact that choosing the legacy for the captainship for teams like CSK need more attention. He pointed about the captainship of Ravindra Jadeja for a brief period that phase not go as per the plans. Since then, current skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has quietly performing his assigned role with the support of head coach Stephen Fleming.
The future is optimistic towards the leadership of Samson who lead the franchise. Ashwin stressed that Samson must not be compelled to follow the path set by past captains like MS Dhoni. Here the fact is all about building something fresh and original because every player’s leadership is different.
Sanju Samson who joined CSK ahead of the IPL 2026, auction through a trade, has already turned his session quite impressive. He created a stunning unbeatable 115 against Delhi Capitals in CSK’s fourth game and carried that form into the next matches with a smooth delivery of 48 and 32 runs.
By not catering to the expectations of how a “CSK Captain” should behave, Ashwin believes Samson can build a new, successful era for the franchise on his own terms with natural progression in his leadership evolution.
