The TMC’s Chief Minister and candidate for the assembly constituency Bhabanipur Mamata Banerjee walked out of the stage after addressing the party activists in the campaign rally in the district of Chakraberia on Saturday evening, alleging that BJP was not allowing her to address the rally.

There was sound disturbance caused by the other microphones used in the rival political party BJP during Mamata’s address to the citizens. Mamata left the platform before a minute passed since she had commenced speaking.

Chief Minister had gone for a rally held before polling to campaign at Ward 70 Bhabanipur Kolkata Municipal Corporation where the majority of their houses were located in Chakraberia.

The chief minister was making an address to the people of her own party in Chakraberia Road, in close proximity to Swaminarayan Temple in her own constituency, and where the disturbance was being made during a BJP rally.

“Look at way they’re yelling. Every member of the media is present. It is humiliating and insulting. They want me to cancel the meeting, and that is the reason for their screaming. Excuse me. I cannot talk to you right now. I’ll have another rally here tomorrow. I’m sorry, and I’m going to go now.” said CM Banerjee

As she exited the podium, a very upset CM Banerjee stated, “Please vote for me in protest of this (incident).”

“We had formal authorization to conduct this gathering As I was doing campaign in the entire state, it became necessary for me to be out of Bhabanipur for one month with Abhishek Banerjee who contested elections for 200 seats along with me,” she added.

Senior TMC politician Sovondeb Chatterjee, who was also present at the gathering, responded to the reported heckling by BJP supporters stated, “Everyone saw what happened. The insult to our chief minister. In the polls, this will be detrimental to the BJP.”

Shortly after this, some sympathizers of the TMC started to converge near the BJP’s rally platform; this almost sparked off a fight between workers of the two political parties.

Adhikari, in his reaction to the protest at his next-door venue, commented that “She nervous about losing the election which is why she is blaming us for something that didn’t occurred at our rally” he also mentioned that Banerjee had caused a disruption during his campaign rally by playing music loudly.

Ashim Pal, TMC councilor from Ward no. 70, wrote a letter of complaint to the police station of Bhabanipur.

The upcoming election battle will be between two contestants Mamata Banerjee and Shuvendu Adhikari for the Bhabanipur Legislative seat in Kolkata.

Bhabanipur is one of the seats contested in West Bengal assembly polls and it will be held in the second phase on April 29.
