BJP’s Bengal Manifesto Promises Uniform Civil Code and Monthly Aid for Women

Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday released the BJP’s manifesto for the Bengal elections, offering multiple dispenses, including ₹3,000 each for women and unemployed youth, apparently to counter Mamata Banerjee’s two flagship schemes- Lakshmir Bhandar and Yuba Sathi

Shah said the manifesto is the roadmap for building a ‘Sonar Bangla,’ and the BJP’s promises were aimed at farmers, youth, women, and government employees.

“The BJP Sankalp Patra will guide farmers, youth, and women, giving them a new direction. It will offer renewed hope to every citizen who takes pride in Bengal’s culture and will serve as a roadmap for the creation of Sonar Bangla,” the Union home minister said.

“Once BJP wins Bengal, it will ensure one law for all, secure borders, have zero-tolerance towards infiltration, stop cattle smuggling,” Shah added.

The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented by the BJP government within six months of taking office, Mr. Shah continued. He stated that the 7th Pay Commission will be put into effect within 45 days to protect the dignity of every employee under the next BJP government, and that all government employees and salaried workers will be guaranteed dearness allowance (DA). Additionally, Mr. Shah pledged a 33% quota for women in all government positions in Bengal, including the police force.

The Union Home Minister launched a scathing attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), claiming that Mamata Banerjee’s administration has been a “nightmare” for West Bengalis for the previous 15 years.

He made fun of the opposition by claiming that Mamata Didi, the chief minister of West Bengal, has spent her three mandates encouraging corruption, fear, and discrimination. “But now, on the basis of BJP’s promise of trust, the people of Bengal will seek a new path, one based on rule of law, personal and national security, employment, and the creation of a ‘Sonar Bangla’,” he stated.

West Bengal will go to the polls in two phases this time. Voting in the first phase will be held on April 23 across 152 seats, while the second phase of polling, covering 142 seats, will take place on April 29.
