Major Setback for Delhi Race Club, High Court Orders to Vacate Premises in 15 Days

New Delhi: In a major blow to the Delhi Race Club management, the Delhi High Court has rejected its petition challenging the land acquisition and eviction order.
The court has made it clear that the club has no other option but to vacate the entire premises. The management has been directed to hand over the land to the concerned department within the next 15 days.
The historic race club, located near the Prime Minister’s residence, has been embroiled in a long legal battle over ownership and use of its land. The government had initiated the process to take over the land for development work and public use, which was challenged by the club in court.
After a long hearing, the High Court observed that the administrative order is within the rules and is necessary in public interest. With this decision, the way is now clear for change in use of this prime land.
According to sources, the administration plans to use the plot for improving the city’s infrastructure and for public-related projects.
As per the court’s order, the race club management has been given only 15 days to remove all its belongings, horses and other properties. After the deadline, the administration can take strict action including forcefully taking possession of the premises.
Panic has gripped the members and employees of the club after the order.
