Burst Pipe Soaks Gariahat Road: Decades-Old Water Line Causes Havoc Near Phari

Gariahat Road is facing another waterlogging issue due to a leaky pipe, with the old water supply line eroding the road near Phari.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has reported that the underground pipeline, which is over 40 years old, has developed leaks, causing water to flood the road. This has raised concerns about water quality and road safety, with traffic police installing guardrails to prevent accidents.

The KMC has planned repairs after Saraswati Puja, but residents are worried about the frequent leaks on this busy road. The 1,100mm diameter line supplies water to Ballygunge and Gariahat areas and feeds the Kasba booster pumping station reservoirs.
