West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose receives death threat via email

Security around West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose was tightened on Thursday night after he received an email threatening a bomb attack and warning of his death, officials said. The message allegedly stated that the sender would “blast” the governor, prompting an immediate response from state authorities.

Following the threat, additional security arrangements were put in place at Raj Bhavan and other locations associated with the governor. Personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force, along with the West Bengal Police, have been deployed for his protection. Sources said Bose, who already has Z-plus security, is now guarded by around 60-70 central armed personnel.

The incident comes at a time of highlighted political tension in West Bengal, days after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee confronted officials of political consultancy firm I-PAC during Enforcement Directorate searches linked to the coal smuggling case. Banerjee has accused the Union Government of misusing central agencies and claimed that party documents were seized during the raids.

According to officials at Lok Bhavan, the threatening email contained a mobile phone number. The matter was escalated to the State Director General of Police, who has been instructed to trace the origin of the message and take action of the origin of the message and take action against those responsible. The Chief Minister’s Office has been briefed, and details of the threat have also been shared with the Union Home Ministry.

Despite the threat, the governor was quoted as saying that he trusts the people of the state and plans to move around Kolkata without security personnel on Friday.
