Bengal Approves Land for Mahakal Temple, New Convention Centre in Siliguri

For boosting tourism and infrastructure in North Bengal, the Government of West Bengal has officially allotted land for the construction of the Mahakal Temple at Matigara in Siliguri. 

A total of 25.15 acres of land, previously under the leasehold of Lakshmi Township & Holdings Ltd., will now be taken over by the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA).

According to the decision, 17.41 acres of vacant and unutilised land from the total area will be transferred to the Tourism Department through an inter-departmental handover. 

The Tourism Department will be responsible for constructing the upcoming Mahakal Mandir, which is expected to become a major spiritual and cultural attraction for the region.

In another key development, the state Cabinet has also approved a new infrastructure project aimed at bolstering Siliguri’s position as a business and event destination. 

A state-of-the-art Convention Centre will be built on 10 acres of land in Dabgram Mouza. The site falls within the Teesta Township area and is strategically located adjacent to Asian Highway II, ensuring excellent connectivity.

Officials believe that both projects will play a pivotal role in boosting tourism, improving urban infrastructure, and creating new economic opportunities in Siliguri and its surrounding areas.
