Excessive speed, wet road! Bus falls into canal after breaking railing in Rajarhat, many passengers seriously injured

Kolkata :A horrific bus accident during the morning rush hour has created a stir in Rajarhat. On Friday morning, a private bus packed with office and school-going passengers lost control and fell into a nearby canal after breaking through a road railing near the Laudoha intersection. Several passengers were injured in the incident.

According to eyewitness accounts, the bus, which was traveling from Behala to Newtown, suddenly lost its balance and crashed at around 7:30 am.Within moments, the bus overturned into the canal, creating widespread panic and excitement in the area.

Upon receiving the news of the accident, the fire brigade and the local police station quickly reached the spot. Local residents also joined the rescue operation. With their efforts, the injured passengers were rescued one by one from the canal and taken to ambulances. The injured have been taken to Rajarhat Subdistrict Hospital. According to hospital sources, the condition of some of them is critical.

Initial police investigation suggests that the main cause of the accident was the wet road and excessive speed of the bus. However, it is also being investigated whether the driver was drunk or not. The bus driver and the conductor have been absconding since the accident.

The accident temporarily disrupted traffic in the Rajarhat area and caused severe traffic jams during morning office hours. A crane was called to lift the bus from the canal.

Locals complain that accidents are frequent on the road and the condition of the railings is very dilapidated. They also express anger over the lack of supervision by the administration. The police have already started an investigation into the incident and the bus involved in the accident has been seized.
