Mamata Banerjee warns on Fake ST”

Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee on Saturday issued a strong warning to Government Authorities regarding the rise in misuse of fake Schedulded Tribe certificates. She demanded that those try to exploit the caste-based reservation system for their own gain be dealt strictly, emphasizing that only truely qualified individuals should benefit. Mamata Banerjee recently spoke at a public event in Anandapur, Kolkata about individuals trying to get an edge by using fake documents meant for the benefit of tribal community. She added this is complete betrayal of trust by taking away rights of real beneficiaries through false documents.

The Chief Minister added that state government is determined to prevent such from happening. She added,’I won’t tolerate anyone trying to steal from the people who genuinely deserves those certificates. She urged officials must verify every application thoroughly. She further stated if there is any fraud cancel it immediately. Fake certificates not only deprive the tribals but also creates social and political unrest. Such activities erodes public trust which in turn leads to faliure in welfare schemes. ‘Our duty is to protect the rights of every genuine ST applicant,’ She assured.

This warning comes at a time when Bengal has been witnessing political tensions over Sandeshkhali and issues concerning the tribal population. Banerjee’s words were always meant to boost confidence among marginalized communities. Earlier, she also spoke about the importance of fairness in welfare distribution while addressing a gathering at Rafi Road. She reminded people look up to the government officials with faith so it is the duty of administrative bodies to ensure justice.

Across India, fake certificates have long been a challenge. For a long period there has been misuse of reservation quotas which led to reduction of opportunities in sectors like education, government jobs and welfare schemes for marginalized communities. West Bengal may see a rise in renewed focus on protecting tribal rights after her strict warning.
