Mamata Announces 30% Quota for ‘Untainted’ Teachers, Alternative Posts for ‘Tainted’ Staff, Fresh Group-C & D Exams Soon

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday unveiled a new set of measures aimed at addressing the crisis faced by thousands of teachers and non-teaching staff who lost their jobs in the wake of the recruitment scam. Presenting the plan as a “humane” solution, Banerjee announced a 30% reservation for “untainted” teachers in upcoming recruitments, alternative employment options for those proven ineligible, and fresh Group-C and D examinations within months.
30% Quota and Extra Marks for Experience
For teachers who were disqualified despite being eligible, the government plans to reserve around 30% of seats in future recruitment. Additionally, a proposal is being considered to grant 10% extra marks to candidates with 10–12 years of prior teaching experience. While direct reinstatement is not possible due to court restrictions, Banerjee stressed that these teachers would be able to reapply and prove their merit through examinations.
New Group-C and D Exams Within 3 Months
The government has also decided to hold fresh Group-C and Group-D recruitment exams within the next two to three months. The Chief Secretary has been directed to explore ways to legally recognize the experience of employees who have worked for over a decade, ensuring they are not disadvantaged due to age.
Alternative Posts for ‘Tainted’ Teachers
In cases where allegations of ineligibility have been upheld, Banerjee said the government is exploring the option of appointing them to Group-C or equivalent posts. Legal consultations are underway, and a formal decision is expected soon.
Framing the initiative as apolitical, Banerjee said the move was “not about politics but humanity.” The real test, however, will lie in how effectively these promises are implemented in the coming weeks.
