Man United Considering Move for Atletico Madrid’s Gallagher

31 August-Kolkata, India: After a worst start to the season, Manchester United finally won their first game after defeating Burnley by 3-2 at Old Trafford. Portuguese and United Head coach Ruben Amorin finally found some relief as the Red Devil’s skipper Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty in the second half injury time to register the first win for the Red Devils in what could have been a draw.

It is evident that the squad has a lot of issues to resolve, and they plan to do so during the last two days of the summer transfer market. Despite making some blockbuster and crucial signings like Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Diego Leon in the summer.

Former Chelsea player to return to EPL

Conor Gallagher, a former Chelsea midfielder and currently playing for La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, is now on the radar of the Red Devils. According to reports, the La Liga giants are prepared to sell him for about £45 million, or about Rs 400 crore. However, some other teams like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are also in the race to get the signature of the 25-year-old English midfielder.

The report stated that “The club see Gallagher as a perfect fit … Spurs are preparing a bid in the region of £35–40 million.” If Manchester United gets the signature, Gallagher will partner with Bruno Fernandes to help the midfield.

Gallagher’s difficulties in Atletico Madrid

Conor Gallagher joined Atletico Madrid last season after leaving his home club Chelsea. However, things were not the same for the 25-year-old midfielder as he only registered four goals in just 50 matches across all competitions for the Rojiblancos in the 2024-25 season. But it now appears that the Rojiblancos are ready to let go of the England international.

Gallagher, meanwhile, was a different player at Chelsea, where his performances made an impression. In the 2023–24 season, he even captained the Blues in a 2-1 EFL Cup victory under Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino. However, Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca, claimed that he did not view him as a regular starter; therefore, in July 2024, they began negotiations for his transfer.
