Life Convict Who Jumped Parole Apprehended in Bihar After Four Years

On August 29, 2025, Delhi police’s Anti-Robbery and Snatching Cell arrested Sanjay, also known as Sujoy, in Patna after four years as a fugitive. He had leapt parole in June 2021, following his life sentence conviction for the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Kapashera, Delhi. During his time on the run, he changed his identity, remarried twice, and even faced assault charges in Patna. His life term was originally sentenced in 2010 and upheld by the Delhi High Court in 2014.

Life Sentence and Parole Escape

Sanjay was convicted in 2010 for luring his young neighbor with a promise of a samosa before sexually assaulting and killing her in an abandoned plot near Oberoi Farms. The court upheld his sentence four years later. After being granted parole in June 2021, he vanished, never returning to jail. He resurfaced in Bihar under the alias “Sujoy,” and even married twice. Police noted that during this period, he also committed assault offenses, compelling authorities to issue new charges.

Sleuthing & Surveillance Lead to Breakthrough

Tracking him down required patience and persistence. Bihar Police, with help from Delhi counterparts, monitored phone call records, informal cash transactions, and movements of his known associates. Officers discreetly placed informants near bus depots and railway stations where he was suspected of moving around. The breakthrough came when surveillance teams traced a pattern of late-night meetings he held with former cellmates in Patna. The breakthrough came when they located him in a rented house on the city’s outskirts, leading to a low-key operation coordinated by Inspectors Mangesh Tyagi and Robin Tyagi. They arrested him without resistance, ensuring the long absconder could finally face justice.

Crimes Committed During Absconding Period

Police noted that during this period, he also committed assault offenses, compelling authorities to issue new charges. Investigators revealed that he had clashed with locals in Patna and Gaya when he attempted to hide his identity and secure shelter. In one incident, he allegedly attacked a shopkeeper who confronted him over suspicious behavior, while in another case, he assaulted a daily wage worker during a heated argument. These offenses were recorded in local police stations, creating a fresh trail of complaints that tied back to him. Officers emphasized that these crimes showed he had not only evaded justice but also continued to pose a threat to communities, worsening the gravity of his case.

This arrest brings both relief and a sense of regret. Relief because an offender who evaded justice is now back in custody. Regret because four years of freedom enabled him to marry, create new ties, and continue criminal acts. This case highlights the importance of revamping parole monitoring systems and improving cross-state coordination. Justice delayed can still arrive—but with every day lost, it becomes a heavier burden on society’s conscience.
