Promoter Gunned Down In Howrah; CCTV Captures Attack, No Arrests Yet

A promoter from Howrah, Shaufique Khan, was shot dead in the Pilkhana area on Wednesday morning, triggering unrest in the locality. Police said he was attacked at close range while speaking to two youths. He suffered bullet injuries to the head and chest and was declared dead after being taken to the hospital.
CCTV visuals that later emerged show one of the youths suddenly pulling out a firearm and firing at Shaufique, followed by another shot from his associate. Investigators suspect the murder was linked to a financial dispute. According to the family members, Shaufique had been facing repeated pressure over money and had longstanding differences with the accused.
The victim’s relatives named Harun Sheikh and Rohit as those allegedly involved. Police commissioner Akash Magharia said initial findings indicate the killing stemmed from a monetary conflict, adding that search operations are underway, though no one has been arrested yet.
The incident heightened tension in the area, with residents demanding swift action and stricter law enforcement ahead of the Assembly elections. Former councillor Mohammad Rustam also visited the spot and raised concerns over criminals using firearms openly. The killing follows another recent shooting on Tiljala Road in Kolkata, where a 23-year-old youth was injured earlier this week.
