Anish Dayal Singh, Ex-CRPF DG, Takes Charge as Deputy NSA

Government Confirms Appointment

The Government of India appointed Anish Dayal Singh as the new Deputy National Security Advisor on August 24, 2025. A 1988-batch IPS officer from the Manipur cadre, Singh earlier led the CRPF and ITBP. His entry into the National Security Council Secretariat adds strong experience in internal security.

Long Service in Security Forces

Singh built his career through leadership in the Intelligence Bureau, ITBP, and CRPF. He served as CRPF Director General in 2024 and introduced reforms that enhanced operational strength. His years in the IB gave him expertise in counter-terrorism and insurgency issues.

New Role and Priorities

As Deputy NSA, Singh will assist Ajit Doval in shaping strategies on internal security. He will focus on Jammu and Kashmir, Naxal-affected areas, and the Northeast. His experience ensures better coordination among security forces and quicker responses to threats.

Achievements in CRPF Leadership

While leading CRPF, Singh set up over 36 Forward Operating Bases in Naxal zones, reorganized 130 battalions, and raised four new units. He also launched “Samvaad” sessions for dialogue with company commanders. His leadership ensured smooth conduct of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

Focus on Troop Welfare

Singh worked to reduce long distances between CRPF battalions and parent centers, easing logistics and family contact. He pushed for honorary ranks for retiring personnel, ending promotion delays and improving morale across the force.

Strengthening National Security Council

Singh now joins other Deputy NSAs, including T.V. Ravichandran and Pawan Kapoor, alongside Additional NSA Rajinder Khanna. His leadership in paramilitary forces and intelligence makes him a vital addition to Ajit Doval’s team.
