Netanyahu’s Ultimatum: Israel to End Conflict on Its Own Terms

22 August-Kolkata, India: As the tensions continue to worsen in West Asia, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has authorised the release of all captives and ended the conflict between Israel and Palestine. He did clarify, though, that the war would conclude “on terms acceptable to Israel.”

Netanyahu added that they still want to continue their operations to take complete control of the city of Gaza despite these negotiations. The Israeli Prime Minister stated these things during a video address on Thursday. Netanyahu made the statement before a high-level security conference with cabinet ministers and defense commanders, where the main objective was to approve the operational plans for capturing Gaza City and “decisively defeating Hamas.”

Netanyahu has stressed the issue that Israel is now at a critical moment in advancing his operation to seize complete control of Gaza City. He emphasised that “defeating Hamas and securing the release of all hostages go hand in hand” and declared, “We are at the decisive stage.”

Netanyahu’s fiery stance against Palestine

This is not the first time the Israeli Prime Minister has given a public speech about a ceasefire in the Israel-Palestine war. The Israeli Prime Minister made his statement a week after Hamas accepted the most recent proposal from Qatari and Egyptian negotiators.

Netanyahu, however, failed to specify to whom he had issued the directive to begin ceasefire negotiations immediately and also did not make reference to the current proposal framework, which calls for the release of half of the remaining Israeli hostages during a 60-day ceasefire.

At least 20 of the 50 war prisoners who are still in Gaza are reportedly alive, according to some Israeli sources. The Israeli prime minister has stressed in recent public remarks that Israel is looking for a comprehensive deal that would guarantee the release of all captives and satisfy Israel’s demands for the war to cease.

More information about Israel-Palestine war

Despite the ceasefire proclamation, the Israeli Prime Minister is planning a huge assault on Gaza City. Despite worries from Gaza City residents who have referred to Israel’s intentions as the “beginning of a new war,” Netanyahu gave the country’s military instructions on Wednesday to shorten the operation’s schedule.

The Israeli military is rounding up tens of thousands of reserve troops who have been called up to participate in the upcoming military operation. The Israel Defence Force reports that the troops are waiting for further orders at their location on the outskirts of Gaza City.

Israel’s Prime Minister stated during the video address that “We are at the stage of decision. Today I came to the Gaza Division to approve the plans that the (Israel Defence Forces) presented to me and the Minister of Defence for taking control of Gaza City and defeating Hamas.โ€ However, Netanyahu didn’t criticise the Egyptian and Qatari negotiators in his speech.
