India to Conduct Civil Defence Mock Drills on May 29 in Border States

National civil defence drills scheduled in border states to boost emergency readiness amid heightened security concerns

Tomorrow, May 29, India will carry out large-scale civil defence mock drills in key states bordering Pakistan. These states are Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Haryana. These exercises aim to strengthen emergency preparedness amid recent security tensions.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the drills will begin at 5 PM. Simulations will include air raids, drone strikes, and missile threats. There will also be coordinated emergency responses such as air raid sirens, blackout drills, and evacuations. Rapid deployment of civil defence, police, disaster response, and medical teams will be included.

Haryana will run a special statewide exercise called Operation Shield, covering all 22 districts to improve local crisis management.

These drills follow Indiaโ€™s Operation Sindoor earlier this month, which targeted terror camps in Pakistan and PoK after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The government stresses these drills are precautionary to enhance readiness, not due to any immediate threat.

Residents in participating states are advised to remain calm and cooperate with authorities. Public announcements will be made throughout to ensure smooth coordination and minimal disruption.
