The Indian government has unveiled a groundbreaking design for the Central Vista museum, marking a new era in public architecture. The highlight of the upcoming Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum is a grand glass dome inspired by global icons.

Central Vista Museum to Feature Glass Dome

At the heart of the Central Vista museum, a glass dome will stand tall as a symbol of modern heritage. It draws design cues from the Louvre in Paris and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. This dome will serve as the main entrance area for visitors.

The structure includes ticket counters, souvenir shops, photo booths, and cafes. Authorities aim to enhance visitor experience while showcasing India’s architectural innovation. Moreover, this dome reflects India’s global cultural aspirations.

French Experts Join Museum Development

In a major development, French Museums Development (FMD) has partnered with Indian authorities. This collaboration will introduce French expertise in museum planning and design to the Central Vista museum.

The planned surface area spans a staggering 155,000 square meters. Once completed, it could become the largest museum in the world, surpassing even the Louvre. Such scale shows India’s dedication to preserving its civilizational timeline.

Heritage Reuse of Government Blocks

India and France signed an agreement in December focused on adaptive reuse. North and South Blocks, currently housing top ministries, will become part of the museum space.

The transformation will not involve demolitions. Instead, these colonial-era structures will be redesigned to align with the museum’s theme. The North Block will undergo retrofitting in the first phase, with a deadline of June 2026.

New Metro Plans Enhance Connectivity

To improve access, authorities plan to build a new metro corridor. This line will connect the Central Vista museum to nearby ministry offices. It will simplify travel for both officials and the public.

Further, the Prime Minister’s Office is expected to shift from the South Block before year-end. This will clear space for converting the South Block into exhibition halls in the second phase.

The museum will celebrate India’s rich 5,000-year-old civilization. Every element, including the dome, aligns with this grand narrative. It will not only display artifacts but also offer immersive experiences.
