In a resolute national address on May 12, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that India will not tolerate any form of nuclear blackmail. This declaration follows the recent Operation Sindoor, a military initiative launched in response to escalating tensions with Pakistan. Modi emphasized that India’s commitment to peace does not equate to passivity, stating, “India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail.”
Operation Sindoor: A Strategic Response
Terrorists carried out an attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, killing 26 Hindu tourists. India blamed Pakistan-backed groups for the attack. It launched military strikes on alleged terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. The operation aimed to destroy terrorist bases and send a strong message. India warned against using nuclear threats to shield terrorism.
Dedicating Valor to the Nation’s Women
Prime Minister Modi dedicated the bravery of Indian soldiers to the nation’s mothers, sisters, and daughters. He said their actions show India’s strong resolve. The military aims to protect citizens, especially women, from terrorism. Modi stated, “I dedicate to every mother, sister, and daughter, the valor of our soldiers.”
Rejecting the ‘Terror and Talks’ Doctrine
Prime Minister Modi firmly rejected the notion of engaging in dialogue with Pakistan under the shadow of terrorism. He asserted that peaceful dialogue and trade relations cannot coexist with ongoing terrorist activities. Modi declared that any future discussions with Pakistan would focus solely on terrorism and the status of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
International Mediation and Ceasefire
Following the escalation, a U.S.-brokered ceasefire was announced, bringing temporary relief to the region. While the ceasefire halted immediate hostilities, Prime Minister Modi clarified that India has merely “paused” its military operations, indicating that further action could be taken if provoked.
Strengthening India’s Defense Capabilities
India continues to bolster its defense capabilities to deter future threats. The successful completion of Mission Divyastra, involving the Agni-V missile equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology, marks a significant advancement in India’s strategic arsenal. This development enhances India’s ability to respond to threats with precision and strength.
