Malayalam Movie Thudarum To Reach 100 Crores : Detailed Review

Kerala : The Evergreen Mollywood combo Mohanlal and Shobhana’s comeback film Thudarum has already fixed its position in the hearts of Malayalis worldwide. The Tharun Moorthy directorial has been loved by the audience for its simple yet thrilling experience.

Thudarum is a family thriller released on last Friday which talks about a middle-class family and their lives. The film is set in a small town called Ranny-Perunad in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, where a taxi driver, Benz, played by the main lead Mohanlal, is in the struggles to make the ends meet in his family. His wife, Lalitha, played by Shobhana, runs her own mill near thier house and their children (played by Thomas Mathew and Amritha Varshini) are the other main characters. For Benz, his old black ambassador car is his life, which he never wants to sell and takes care of it as his own kid. He is indeed a family man who cares and loves his family deeply. While the first half of the film is comedy and fun elements, the second part twists the storyline and showcases the havoc that turns the innocent family upside down.

Unlike other superstar films where references to their old movies are added in every once in a while simply to evoke applause and cheer from nostalgic fans, Thudarum satirises a couple of elements from Mohanlal’s earlier films, particularly the ones which underperformed. From Shanmugham being referred to as “Agent X” (Aarattu, 2022) and asked “Kurachu kanji edukkatte?” (Odiyan, 2018), to being mocked enquiring as to why he is lying down like “Vettiyitta vaazha thandu” (Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, 2021), Moorthy has beautifully woven in all the meme elements into this movie, evoking laughter and not making viewers cringe once.

Prakash Varma, a Bangalore based ad-filmmaker, plays the villain in the movie. He portrays the role of George, CI of Perunad Police Station. His dialogue delivery and pure absorption of his character was breathtaking to watch on screen, specially this being his debut, which amazed the overall audience.

The reviews coming in all are mostly positive with 97% liking it in BookMyShow. According to some fans Mohanlal did complete justice to his role and they were emotional to see the actor in an old avatar, reminding them of his evergreen films. “We got to see our old Lalettan again. He’s back.” said a fan.

Critics termed this film so far as one of the best “revenge thrillers in Indian Cinema.” and we do so completely agree.
